For the last few years, university students have been given the chance to choose a few optional courses（选修课=elective class）in addition to the mandatory courses（必修课= required class)of their majors.

最近几年来，除了上专业必修课之外，大学生们还有机会选学一些选修课。

Because it has become known thatsome students end up spending more time on their elective classes than on their required classes, not everyone is entirely satisfied with（对……感到满意）this system. In fact（事实上）, some students have even had to drop out（退学）of university because of failing grades due to the amount of time and effort spent on the optional classes.
